Free Spanish Guitar Lessons On The Web

May 6, 2012 Category :Spanish Guitar Playing Off

Picking up my Dad’s old flamenco guitar recently I got inspired to try and learn a bit of this style of music. Now I know it this is a serious art form which takes a lifetime of practice to learn, that you have to start off while you’re still a kid and all that but I’m not out to be the next Paco Pena, just to get a decent bit of Spanish fire happening will be enough.

Some of the sites online are pretty advanced and not really that beginner friendly shall we say I did however find these free Spanish guitar lessons and for my money they were the best. *Quick Tip: there are 2 sample lessons on the homepage but a he’s uploaded a hell of a lot more than that on YouTube so make sure you go there and you’ll find many more to enjoy without needing to pay a dime.

When talking about flamenco guitar it’s more of a serious study… something that you might go to college for and do an actual degree in much like classical guitar. Spanish guitar however is more generic and less scholastic if I can put it that way. There are many books and DVD’s where the music is in TAB so you don’t even need to be able to read music. That’s essential for me because I don’t know how to read music at all!

Maybe some day I’ll learn, from what others tell me it does give you an enormous amount of extra freedom when it comes to learning guitar.

What Is A Good Practice Routine For Guitar?

April 8, 2012 Category :Playing Guitar Off

When you first start learning how to play barre chords on guitar you’ll make a lot of progress very quickly. It’s a funny thing but actually the better you get on guitar as the months and years pass the slower your rate of improvement will be. It’s something which happens pro-rata. So anyway, as a beginner you should make quite a brisk improvement especially if you follow the following guidelines when it comes your practicing.

Practice Must Be Daily

This first rule is very important. It’s no good to simply do 3 hours of practice on a Sunday and then nothing for the rest of the week. It needs to be consistent and done in small bite-size pieces each day. 30 minutes is an ideal amount of time for most beginners to practice and you can go up to anything up to one hour if you like. More than one hour is debatable about whether or not it’s really helping you too much or not. I tend to think that if you schedule and plan your 30 min – 1 hour of practice time properly then that’s really all you’ll need. You many be impatient to improve quickly however you won’t succeed in doing that by practicing more each day honestly, this is something which only time can do for you so be as patient as you can.

Practice Must Be Focused

Secondly it’s no good just sitting down and strumming some barre chords to your favorite song. You need to have a very specific goal of what you want to target and focus your practice session on. This should be something which you are having trouble with or are finding difficult to do. There’s no point in practicing things which you can already do.

Also, learning songs is not practicing guitar. It’s something totally different so please don’t confuse the two!

Guitar Techniques

Technically, this stuff is not for beginners. Beginners in a sense that they haven’t started anything yet and haven’t yet grasped the essence of guitar playing. This is for the guitar players who have already started, learned the basics and has grasped the basic foundational essence of guitar playing. They already understood what guitar playing is about and how it works. That is why kudos to those who are learning the different guitar techniques for you would soon reap the benefits of your hard work. Anyway, this post is all about guitar techniques and how it works. But I will be sharing just some of the techniques that I know because I can’t include all of it. Won’t fit in this post.

Guitar Techniques – The Slide

The Slide technique is a good example of a guitar technique that gives color and interest to the notes that you play. To do it, all you have to do is make a note sound by picking or plucking it and then move up the next note, it doesn’t matter how many frets up or down, move up by sliding it without raising your finger up the fretboard. That is what you call the Slide Technique. Gives the note some variation.

Guitar Techniques – The slide application

How the slide technique does affect your guitar playing especially your guitar soloing skills? It brings dynamics to the solo. It’s like you are putting emphasis on the next note by passing through some notes. This would be epic if you follow it up with some vibrato. The vibrato is another guitar technique which we would cover next time. Until then, practice the guitar techniques that you know including the slide technique.

Guitar Practice for Beginners

There’s a common scenario with beginner guitar players. Kids who wanted to instantly do advanced guitar stuff without doing the basics, skipping it. When I see this, I get a good laugh but later on, I realized that I was like this before as well. It’s part of the normal procedure that we go through when we were young in guitar playing. Good thing there were people who are always willing to guide us. That is why if better guitar player advices you on starting with the basics, do what they told you, it’s for your own good and it is much more effective.

The difference – Guitar Practice for Beginners

Basically, there’s only a slight difference between the type of practice a beginner and advanced guitar player has. The intensity, the tenacity and the frequency is all the same. But the thing that they are going to practice is what differs. The difficulty level. Although the difficulty level is basically the same since everything is difficult for beginners, it differs. So if you are still a newbie on guitar playing, give it you’re all. Being a newbie is not an excuse for not giving the practice your best shot. How would you advance if you don’t push it hard?

The proper method – Guitar Practice for Beginners

The proper method is to start on the bottom. Start with the basics. Learning how to ladderize your learning process is also a plus. It’s a good thing to start with the seemingly easy parts because that’s how you do it. If you start from the bottom up, it would be quicker, you will learn in a much quicker fashion compared to skipping the basics. There are some components in basic guitar skills that are needed in doing the much more advanced. That is why guitar practice for beginners is a very essential part of guitar playing.

improving speed

October 14, 2010 Category :Electric Guitar 0

How to improve your speed? There are millions of beginners out there who are getting depressed over their current status because they can’t seem to improve their speed. Most of them result to quitting even because they think that everything is hopeless and they wouldn’t just do it anymore. But it tells you, there must be something wrong with how you do it. Most beginner guitar players suffer from this because they are doing it wrong in the first place. Many of them doesn’t know that until they realize that they aren’t going anywhere with what they are doing. They just keep on repeating the same thing until years pass and they are still on that level.

The best tip that I could give you is to exercise finger independence. Do 1 – 2 – 3 -4, 1 – 3 -2 -4, 1 – 4 -3 -2, 4 – 3 – 2 -1 over and over again until you get used to it. Do it on all strings in a successive order. Also a good advice that I could give you is to not move your finger too far off the fret board. This just makes you exert extra effort. Move it near the board and you would see it make miracles.

Learn the theory

August 26, 2010 Category :Electric Guitar 0

There is a certain theory in playing the guitar, especially with the chords. Knowing this theory could help you beginners in playing and learning the guitar. So let us start.

The notes are replaced with the first seven letters in the alphabet.

C – Do

D – Re

E – Mi

F – Fa

G – So

A – La

B – Ti

C – Do

Between these notes, except B and C, and, E and F, we have the sharps and the flats. Notes that are a semitone higher or lower. The symbols that are used for these are:

?- flat

? – sharp

So if we try to list the notes once again, and if we include the sharps and the flats, we would have:

C – C#/Db – D – D#/Eb – E – F – F#/Gb – G – G#/Ab – A – A#/Bb – B – C

If you notice, there are notes that have a slash. These are notes that have two names. For example, A# is the same with Bb. Actually, it doesn’t matter which name you choose, it is the same.  Additionally, if you noticed, after the B chord, there is another C. that is the octave; it is a C note that is higher in pitch.

Album Sales on an All Time Low

August 13, 2010 Category :Electric Guitar 0

For one week that ended on May 30, the music industry in the United States sold 4,984,000 albums.  That was according to Nielsen SoundScan.  This includes new materials and catalog releases.  But that figure means that that was the lowest number of albums sold in a week since 1994.  And they say that these are all the results of piracy and piracy would kill artists in the future.  I say that they’re lying.

The only artists that would die of those under the major labels because if they don’t sell you will be dropped.  But for real artists and bands that make real music, they don’t give a damn about record sales because they have a huge number of supporters backing them up.  This is also because they make real music and they are two to themselves best way fans would go out of their way just to purchase their album because they know that every track is worth it.  So if I were you, do what Radiohead did.  Sold their own album in their own price and they are the ones controlling the creative content of their music.  Say no to sell outs.

PERFORMING

August 10, 2010 Category :Electric Guitar 1

music is indeed the universal language that everybody understands. It could communicate much effectively than language because it deals with the heart and the mind. So many things are birthed and ended because of music. The power that it has is unfathomable and this is the reason why I believe there is a supreme being above us. Music has been made available for everyone. Anyone could produce music; the difference is how well they could produce that music. For instance, guitar playing. It is not always similar for everybody. There are great guitar players and there are not so great guitar players on the scene. That is why if you wanted to convey a message through music, you should really work hard on it. Music, although it is free and natural, needs to be learned like everything else. And learning it is not an easy feat. Most people spend their entire lives just learning it. Nowadays, technology has made it possible for us to be able to learn music in a whole new perspective and methods in learning had become easy and freely available.

We all have the music inside of us, it is a matter of how we would activate it and use it effectively.
